Choosing metrics

Pick which metrics you plan for, put them in the order you read them, and know what happens when you stop tracking one.

Targets plan spend and whatever else you promised. Which metrics appear in the rail on Pacing and Plan is your choice, and it is made in one place: Manage metrics, at the bottom of that rail.

Tracked metrics at the top in your own order; the catalogue below, grouped.

The list

Tracked sits at the top. Cost is pinned first with a locked checkbox — every organization always plans spend, and that is not negotiable. Everything else you ticked follows, each with a drag handle: the order here is the order of the rail, so put the metric you check every morning second.

Below the tracked list is the catalogue you can add from, grouped:

GroupWhat's in it
BasicClicks, Impressions — counts that come straight from the platforms.
ConversionsRevenue, Purchases, Leads and your own conversion metrics.
EfficiencyROAS, CTR, CPA, CPL, CPM — the ratios.
CustomConversion-sum metrics you built on the Metrics page.

Each row carries a chip with the metric's unit and an arrow for its direction: count · ↑ means a count where higher is better, money · ↓ a cost where lower is better. That arrow is what decides whether beating the plan is green or red on every other screen — see Good news and bad news.

Metrics you can't tick yet

A metric built on conversions needs a conversion mapping before it can be planned. Until then its row is greyed out, the checkbox is disabled, and the description reads Not mapped yet — set up conversions with a link to where you do it. Level would otherwise be asking you to plan a number it has no way to measure.

If a mapping is removed after targets exist, those targets stay but their rows report Metric not set up instead of a figure.

Nothing happens until Apply

Ticking, unticking and dragging build a draft. Apply writes it in one go; Cancel throws it away. Applying does three things in order: tracks what you added, saves the new order, then untracks what you removed.

Untracking deletes its targets

Removing a metric is not hiding it. The targets planned on that metric are deleted, alerts included — so Level asks first, and names the count:

Stop tracking ROAS? · 14 targets will be deleted, alerts included.

A metric nobody has planned on yet says so instead ("Nothing has been planned for it yet"), and the confirmation is a formality. If you are on the year plan with unsaved work when the metric you are editing disappears, a second question warns you about those changes too.

Who can change this

Manage metrics appears only for members with the Manage Budgets permission — the same permission that lets you type numbers into the year plan. Everyone else sees the rail and can switch between the metrics already tracked.
