Widgets and layout

Edit mode, the seven widget kinds, the widget editor with its live preview, pinned ad accounts, series colors and the text widget's markdown.

A dashboard is a grid of widgets. You change it in edit mode: nothing you do there reaches anyone else until you click Save.

Edit mode

Click Edit in the dashboard's header. The header turns into the editing bar — an Editing badge (Unsaved changes once something moved), Add widget, Discard and Save.

Edit mode. Drag a widget by its header, resize it from the right or bottom edge.
  • Move a widget by dragging its header (or the small handle of a KPI tile or a picker). With the header focused, the arrow keys move it one cell at a time.
  • Resize it from its right edge, its bottom edge or the corner between them. Each kind has a minimum size. The pickers resize in width only.
  • The ⋯ menu of a widget has Edit, Duplicate and Delete. The two pickers have no menu — they can only be moved and resized.
  • Save stores the whole board at once. Discard throws away everything since you clicked Edit.

Widgets stay where you put them — the grid doesn't pull them up to fill gaps. If someone else saved the same dashboard while you were editing, Save says Dashboard was changed by someone else, loads their version and leaves edit mode.

Editing needs the Can edit level on the dashboard or higher, and a screen at least 1 024 px wide.

Widget kinds

Add widget opens the editor on a choice of kinds.

Six kinds of widget. Each opens the editor on the next screen.

The period and ad-account pickers aren't among them: every dashboard has exactly one of each, from the moment it is created. They can be moved and made wider or narrower, but not edited, duplicated or removed.

The widget editor

Picking a kind — or Edit in a widget's menu — opens the editor: settings on the left, the widget itself on the right, redrawn a moment after every change.

The preview reads the last 30 days of the widget's ad accounts, whatever the dashboard's period.

The kind can't be changed after the widget is created — duplicate and rebuild instead.

Title (for a KPI tile, Label — by default the tile shows the metric's name).

Metrics. Click the picker to search the metric catalog — Level's metrics and your custom metrics, grouped by category. Where a widget takes several metrics, drag them to reorder: in a table the order is the column order, in a time series the first metric is on the left axis and the second on the right.

Where a widget reads from

Ad accounts has two modes:

  • Dashboard picker — the default. The widget follows the ad-account picker at the top of the board.
  • Specific accounts — the widget is pinned to the accounts you pick and ignores the picker. Use it for a widget that must always show one channel, say, a Google Search spend tile next to an all-accounts total.

Breakdowns by segment and tables of segments also take Segments: leave it empty to include every segment.

Per kind

Time series — Granularity Day, Week or Month; Chart Line, Area or Bar; Values Per period or Cumulative. Cumulative adds each period to the ones before it, a running total — "spend to date". It is off for ratios like ROAS or CTR, which can't be summed over time.

Breakdown — Break down by Campaign, Segment, Ad account or Platform; ChartBar, Donut or Pie. By campaign you choose how many Top campaigns to show, 5 to 20; the rest are added up into one Other slice. The other dimensions always show every row.

Table — Rows Campaigns, Segments, Ad accounts, Months or Creatives (Business and above); Sort by any of the widget's metrics, Desc or Asc; Rows to show 5 to 50 for campaigns and creatives. Totals row adds a real total over every row in the period, not only the ones shown. Segment tables have no totals row: a campaign can sit in several segments, so their rows don't add up. Month rows always run in calendar order. A segment row can be clicked to see the campaigns behind it.

A table's columns are its metrics, in the order you drag them into.

Text — up to 4 000 characters of markdown: headings (#), paragraphs, lists (-, *, 1.), **bold**, *italic* and [links](https://…). Links work for http and https addresses only; anything else is printed as plain text.

Targets pacing — one to three targets, each an ad account and a metric. Only pairs that have a target planned on the Targets page are offered. Each target is paced for every month of the dashboard's period, with the same bar and colors as the Targets screen: a marker where the plan stands today, green when on track, red when drifting the wrong way. The pacing widget always reads its own accounts, not the ad-account picker.

Three targets, three states: on track, over the plan, behind it.

Colors

Time series and breakdowns have a Colors section. Pick a palette for every series at once — Vivid, Pastel, Emerald, Warm, Cool or Ink (greys for print) — or give any single series its own color: a time series has a swatch next to each metric, a breakdown lists every row it currently shows. Auto returns to the default colors and Reset all clears the custom ones. Colors never change what the widget reads.

A palette for the whole widget, or a color for a single row.
